Today’s Google Doodle is reminding people of the importance of wearing a face covering, to help prevent the spread of Covid-19.
The doodle shows each of the letters putting on a mask, and then spreading out so they are socially distanced.
It links to resources explaining how best to protect yourself and others, with less than two per cent of the world’s population having been fully vaccinated.
More than 131 million people have been infected worldwide since the start of the pandemic, and more than 2.8 million people have died.
The UK has the fifth most deaths, at 126,862. This is behind the United States (555,109), Brazil (332,752), Mexico (204,399) and India (165,101).
Steps to stay safe during the pandemic
Here are some simple steps you can take to help keep yourself and others safe:
- Try to stay at least two metres (three steps) away from anyone you do not live with or anyone not in your support bubble
- Wash your hands with soap and water often – do this for at least 20 seconds
- Use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available
- Wash your hands as soon as you get home
- Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze
- Put used tissues in the bin immediately and wash your hands afterwards
- Wear something that covers your nose and mouth when it’s hard to stay away from people, such as in shops or on public transport
- Do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean
